End User License Agreement

01About this agreement

This agreement is between you and Md Sohel of Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand 827001, India, the developer of the Lantern : Learn Islam application for iOS and Android. It concerns the app software itself. How your information is handled is covered by the Privacy Policy, and the wider service is covered by the Terms of Use.

This agreement applies in place of the app store’s default licence terms where a store permits a custom agreement, and it is written to meet the minimum terms Apple requires of developers who supply their own. Installing or using the app means you accept it. Where the user is a child, the parent or legal guardian accepts it on their behalf and stays responsible for their use of the app.

Questions, complaints and support all go to support@lanternislam.com. This document takes effect on the day Lantern : Learn Islam first becomes publicly available, and was last updated on 7 September 2026.

02Your licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use Lantern for private, non-commercial educational purposes, on devices you own or control, in line with the usage rules of the store you obtained it from. On Apple platforms this includes use on any device you own or control, and use by family members under Family Sharing where the store permits it.

Teachers may use the app with their own class on a device under adult supervision. Any broader institutional deployment needs written permission from us first.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. All rights not expressly granted here stay with us.

03What you may not do

You may not resell, rent, lease, sublicense or redistribute the app; remove or obscure any copyright, trademark or ownership notice; bypass the technical measures that protect paid content or accounts; or copy, modify, translate, adapt, decompile or reverse engineer the software, except to the exact extent that applicable law, an open-source licence covering a component, or our written permission allows.

You may not extract the stories, illustrations or audio from the app for republication, training a machine learning system, or any commercial use.

You agree not to use the app in any country subject to applicable trade embargoes, or if you are on a restricted-parties list, where such restrictions apply to you.

04Ownership

Lantern, its source code, design, wordmark, illustrations and written content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property law. Religious texts and historical sources quoted within the app remain subject to their own status and any applicable licence.

Third-party and open-source components included in the app remain governed by their own licence terms, which prevail over this agreement for those components. A list is available on request.

05Updates, subscriptions and support

This agreement covers any updates we release, unless an update arrives with its own terms, in which case those terms govern that update. Updates may be delivered automatically through the app store depending on your device settings, and we may stop supporting older versions or operating systems as the app develops.

Some content requires a subscription. Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple or Google under the Terms of Use, not by us.

Support is provided by us, not by the app store. Write to support@lanternislam.com and we will respond as promptly as we reasonably can. We do not offer a guaranteed response time or a telephone support line.

06Content and claims about the app

Lantern provides educational material about Islam, the prophets and Muslim history. Interpretations differ between traditions, the content is not a religious ruling, and no particular learning outcome is guaranteed.

We are solely responsible for the app and its content, and for any claim that the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, or any claim arising under consumer protection, product liability or similar law. The app store is not responsible for any of that.

If a third party claims that the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not the app store, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.

07Warranties and liability

The app is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law permits, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or free of errors. If the app fails to conform to any warranty that cannot be disclaimed and you obtained it from the Apple App Store, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if applicable; beyond that refund, Apple has no other warranty obligation.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app and its subscriptions in the twelve months before the claim.

None of this affects rights you have that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer guarantees under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 in India and equivalent laws elsewhere, or liability for death, personal injury or fraud.

08Ending this licence

You may end this licence at any time by uninstalling the app and deleting your account. Note that uninstalling alone does not delete your account or cancel a subscription; both are handled as described in the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

We may end this licence if you materially breach it. Except where the breach is serious or urgent, we will tell you what the problem is and give you a fair opportunity to fix it first. When the licence ends you must stop using the app and remove your copies. Ending the licence does not by itself refund a subscription period already paid, which remains subject to the relevant store’s refund policy.

09App store terms

This agreement is between you and us alone, not with Apple or Google. Neither store is responsible for the app or its content, and neither has any obligation to provide maintenance or support for it.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement as it applies to the iOS app, and Apple has the right to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary once you accept it. Your use of the iOS app must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, and your use of the Android app with Google Play’s terms.

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any United States Government restricted-parties list, to the extent those representations are required by the store.

10Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of India, with the courts at Bokaro, Jharkhand having jurisdiction, and preserving the mandatory protections available to you where you live. Nothing here overrides the usage rules of the app store you obtained the app from.
