01Our service
These terms govern the Lantern : Learn Islam website and mobile app, provided by Md Sohel, an independent individual developer based in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand 827001, India. You can reach us at support@lanternislam.com.
Lantern helps children, teenagers and adults explore Islamic and Muslim history through illustrated stories, each followed by a short quiz. The phone screens shown on this website are design concepts rather than photographs of a finished build.
This document takes effect on the day Lantern : Learn Islam first becomes publicly available, and was last updated on 7 September 2026.
02Accepting these terms
Browsing this website means you accept these terms. Creating an account means the same, and the app asks you to confirm it during signup.
You must be at least 18 to open an account. If a child will be using Lantern, the parent or legal guardian opens and keeps control of the account, accepts these terms on the family’s behalf, and remains responsible for what happens under it. Accepting these terms is not the same as the separate consent described in our Privacy Policy.
03Your account
Accounts are created by signing in with Google or Apple. Keep control of whichever account you use to sign in, since anyone with access to it can reach your Lantern account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got in.
One account is meant for one household. Do not share your sign-in with people outside your family, sell access, or use someone else’s account without their permission.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, and doing so removes your data as set out in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms or the law, and except in urgent cases we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.
04Subscriptions and payment
Some of Lantern is free and some requires a subscription. Subscriptions are sold only through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which means Apple or Google takes the payment, handles the taxes, and is the party you have the billing relationship with. We never receive or store your card details.
The price, billing period and what the subscription includes are shown in the app before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand, and cancelling is done in your Apple or Google account settings rather than by contacting us, because we have no power to stop their billing. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds follow the policy of whichever store you bought through, and requests should go to Apple or Google directly. Where you live in India, the European Union, the United Kingdom or anywhere else with mandatory consumer rights such as a statutory cooling-off period, those rights apply in full whatever a store policy says.
If a paid feature is withdrawn during a period you have already paid for, contact us and we will work with the relevant store to put it right.
05Learning and educational content
Stories, historical accounts, translations and interpretations differ between sources, schools and traditions. Lantern is written to support learning and family discussion. It is not a fatwa, not a religious ruling, and not a substitute for the guidance of a qualified scholar. Where a matter is disputed among scholars, treat what you read here as an introduction rather than a verdict.
We take accuracy seriously and correct mistakes when they are pointed out. If something looks wrong, or a story sits badly with you, write to support@lanternislam.com and tell us what and why. Content is reviewed against recognised sources before publication and again whenever a credible correction reaches us.
We do not promise any particular learning outcome, and quiz scores are there to encourage rereading rather than to assess anyone.
06Using Lantern respectfully
You may use Lantern for personal and family learning, including with your own children at home. Teachers may use it with a class provided each account remains under an adult’s control and access is not resold.
Please do not interfere with the service or its security, introduce malicious code, attempt to reach accounts or data that are not yours, scrape or bulk-download the content, use automated systems against the service, or use Lantern for anything unlawful. Do not strip out attribution or present our stories and illustrations as your own.
The app software is separately governed by the End User License Agreement. The stories, illustrations, wordmark and design of Lantern belong to their respective rights holders, and copying, redistributing or using them commercially needs written permission unless the law or a specific licence already allows it.
07Availability and changes
Lantern is offered as it is and as it becomes available. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free access, and features may be added, changed or withdrawn as the app develops.
We may update these terms. When a change materially affects your rights or an active subscription, we will give reasonable notice in the app or by email before it takes effect, and continuing to use Lantern after that means you accept the revised terms. If you do not accept them, you may stop using the service and delete your account, and where you have paid for a period you cannot now use, contact us and we will help you seek a refund through the store.
08Responsibility
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data caused by something outside our reasonable control. Where liability cannot be excluded, and to the extent it can lawfully be capped, our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid for Lantern in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms removes rights that cannot lawfully be removed. That includes mandatory consumer guarantees under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 in India and the equivalent protections in other countries, and any liability for death, personal injury or fraud caused by us.
09Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bokaro, Jharkhand have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country, and you may be able to bring proceedings there.
Most problems are quickest to solve directly, so please write to support@lanternislam.com first and we will try to resolve it. Complaints and grievances under Indian law reach the same address, and we respond within 30 days.
