Who we are

These terms cover the Lantern app for Mac and this website, both made by Md Sohel, an independent developer based in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand 827001, India. You can reach us at support@lanternislam.com. Downloading, installing or using Lantern, or using this website, means you accept these terms.

Your licence

Lantern is free. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download, install and use it on Macs you own or control, for any non-commercial purpose. The app is licensed to you, not sold, and all rights not granted here stay with us.

Please don’t sell, rent or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or copy, modify or reverse engineer it, except where the law or an open-source licence covering a part of it allows. Lantern includes open-source software, notably Sparkle (MIT licence) and a sound from Raphael Salaja’s soft pack (MIT licence), which stay under their own licences.

Supporting Lantern

Support is entirely voluntary: you choose the amount, and it doesn’t unlock anything, because everything in Lantern is free for everyone. Payments are made on Buy Me a Coffee (https://buymeacoffee.com/r00kexe) under its terms. Because a contribution is a gift rather than a purchase, it isn’t refundable, except where the law where you live says otherwise; if something went wrong with a payment, write to us and we will help.

The Quran and its translation

The Arabic recitations, the Quran text and the Saheeh International translation come from the Quran Foundation and their respective rights holders, and are credited in the app. They remain theirs, under their own terms.

A translation conveys the meaning of the Quran; it is not the Quran itself. Lantern is a way to listen and read along. It is not a religious ruling or a substitute for a qualified scholar, and where accuracy matters, check against a printed Mushaf. If you notice an error, please tell us at the address above and we will look into it.

Updates

Lantern checks for updates and offers them when they are available. These terms cover every update unless an update comes with its own. We may change or stop offering features, and stop supporting older versions of macOS, as Lantern develops.

No warranty

Lantern is provided free and as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will always work, be available, or be free of errors, and we disclaim implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose. Recitations depend on third-party servers and on your internet connection.

Responsibility

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you contributed to Lantern in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here removes rights you have that cannot lawfully be removed, including those under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 in India and equivalent laws elsewhere, or liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by us.

Ending your licence

You can stop using Lantern at any time by removing it. We may end this licence if you seriously break these terms; you must then stop using the app and remove it.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bokaro, Jharkhand have jurisdiction, without taking away the protection of the mandatory laws where you live. Please write to support@lanternislam.com first; most problems are quickest to solve directly, and we reply within 30 days.

If we change these terms, the date at the top will change. Using Lantern after a change means you accept the new terms.
