Getting help

Write to support@lanternislam.com with your version of macOS and what happened. One person reads that inbox, so please be patient; we reply within 30 days at the outside. There is no phone line.

Installing Lantern

Lantern needs macOS 14 or later. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Lantern into your Applications folder, then open it from there. Lantern is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens without a warning.

Lantern has no window and no Dock icon. It lives as a small pill at the top of your screen, under the camera on Macs that have one. Hover it to open the player; move away to close it.

Updates

Lantern checks for a new version about once a day and asks before installing it. You can also download the newest version from this website at any time and replace the one in Applications.

When a recitation won’t play

Recitations stream from the internet, so check your connection, then press Try again under the controls. The Quran text works offline once it has been loaded once.

Quitting and opening at login

Open the player, click the gear at its top right, and choose Quit Lantern in Settings. Open at login can be turned off in the same place.

Removing Lantern

Quit Lantern, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. To remove what it saved too, delete the Lantern folder in Library › Application Support, and the file com.lanternislam.Lantern.plist in Library › Preferences (in the Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder and type ~/Library to find them).

Supporting Lantern

Lantern is free. If it helps you, you can support it with any amount at https://buymeacoffee.com/r00kexe, or from Settings › Support in the app.
